Of the People, By the People .... and For the People!
It is commendable that agencies that are funding biomedical research are taking a greater initiative to ensure that the fruit of their investments are going to reach a larger number of scientists with open-access publication. Hopefully, the decision of holders of grants from these agencies to publish in the proposed journal will not hinder nor unfairly bias their abilities for future funding from these organizations. In addition, acceptance for publication should not be contingent on the work being funded by one or more of these agencies. With high quality peer-review, the published articles could be of high significance and interest. However, this new venue should also permit more feedback from the broad scientific community on individual publications to further maximize their impact.
